Dreams & Nightmares

While I was driving home listening to 94.5, this song called “Dreams & Nightmares” by Meek Mill came on the radio. I’m not too familiar with his music, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well this particular song embodies our discussions about the similarities between rap music and poetry. The beginning in particular, sounds very much like spoken word poetry. While some rap songs rely on a beat to produce the “flow” that Olivia mentioned during her presentation, the music in Dreams & Nightmares is largely secondary to the lyrics. Meek Mill’s assertive delivery and strategic pauses (end stops?) add to the poetic nature of this song.
